UNESCO Survey: 13% Global Museums might be Closed Permanently

On May 18, the International Museum Day, both the UNESCO and the International Council of Museums (ICOM) published research results which indicated that global museums were severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the face of the Covid-19, 85,000 museums worldwide experienced temporary closure, taken up to almost 90% of the total. In addition, only 5% of the museums in developing countries of Africa and small islands were available to deliver online content for audiences. Nearly 13% of global museums might be closed permanently.
