“Masterpieces in Lingnan: Special Exhibition of Song and Yuan Calligraphy and Painting” Opens in Guangzhou

On August 19, 2022, Masterpieces in Lingnan: Special Exhibition of Song and Yuan Calligraphy and Painting opens at Guangdong Museum.

Taking “Song and Yuan calligraphy and painting” and “collected by Guangdong collectors” as two basic features, the exhibition consists of three parts focusing on different perspectives of renowned works of calligraphy and painting in the Song and Yuan dynasties and their embedded aesthetic consciousness, tradition and achievements of calligraphy and painting collection in the Song and Yuan dynasties, and their implications and inspirations on later generations.

Over 50 pieces (sets) of calligraphy and painting and related objects are on display, coming from 8 institutions including Guangdong Museum, The Palace Museum, Nanjing Museum, Chinese University of Hong Kong Art Museum, Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangzhou Museum of Art, Foshan Museum and Shantou Museum. Over 50% are rated as first-grade national treasures. This is a rarely-seen exhibition of Song and Yuan calligraphy and painting works in recent years, and also the first of its kind held in Guangdong.
