On August 14, the State Hermitage Museum of Russia announced that it would extend the exhibition Conquest of the Irrational. Books illustrated by Salvador Dali from the Collections of Mark and Pavel Bashmakov until October 18.

The museum has particularly curated an exhibition plan for surrealists’ works, which includes both this exhibition and the previous one on Joan Miró’s works. This exhibition on Dali’s works will display the famous illustration series Les Chants de Maldoror (“the Songs of Maldoror”) for the first time, which marks the beginning of Dali’s career as an illustrator.

In addition, the illustrations for Don Quixote, which is an attempt by the artist to combine surrealist automatism and lithographic techniques, will also meet the audience at the exhibition. Exhibits also include a large number of illustrations of the Divine Comedy and the Bible (100 and 105 pieces respectively).
