Exhibition on Ancient Andean Civilization in Peru Opens at Capital Museum

On May 21, 2021, the Capital Museum, China inaugurated the exhibition Wonders: The Ancient Andean Civilization in Peru to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Peru.

The exhibition was hosted by the Capital Museum and co-organized by 11 Peruvian museums, including the National Museum of Archeology, Anthropology and History in Peru. Since September 2019, before came to Beijing, the exhibition series have toured Shanxi Museum, Tianjin Museum, Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, Hunan Museum and Guangdong Museum.

The exhibition consists of four units, “Emergence of Social Complexity”, “Emergence of Diverse Regional Cultures”, “Inter-regional Political Systems” and “Last Empires”. With 155 pieces (sets) of artifacts covering 15 important cultures throughout the history of ancient Peru, the exhibition displays the magnificent history from the origin of the Andean civilization, throughout the diverse development of regional cultures such as Tiwanaku, Wari and Sicán, to the fall of the Inca Empire. It shows the vivid life course of Peruvian ancestors from 1500 BC to the 16th century.
