Exhibition of Maritime Tea Trade between China and Europe Held in China National Tea Museum

From June 11 to October 17, 2021, the exhibition Green Gold—Maritime Tea Trade between China and Europe from 17th to 19th Century is held at the China National Tea Museum.

From perspectives of production, marketing and cultural communication, the exhibition is divided into three parts, “Chasing the Sea”, “Empire’s Business”, and “Starting from the End”, systematically displaying the spread of tea from its production regions in China to the western world.

The exhibition begins with the shipwreck of the Swedish East Indiaman Gotheborg lost in 1745. Artifacts include a model of the wrecked ship, tea samples similar to those in the sunken ship, tea dispatch note by the Hexingxiang Shop of the late Qing dynasty, tea package paper of the late Qing dynasty, tea boxes from the Tongwen Shop in the Qing dynasty, and so on.
