On May 29, 2022, the International Culture and History Museum of Zheng He celebrated its official opening in Malacca, a historic city of Malaysia. The museum was co-founded by Chinese Zheng He Research Society, the Working Committee of the Historic Quarter of Malacca (Jonker Street) and Zheng He Duoyunxuan (Malacca) Art Museum.
The museum is divided into eight sections to present the maritime voyages led by Admiral Zheng He, with texts, photos, sculptures, boat models and oil paintings. The artworks on display include the Zheng He-themed sculpture series by Chinese artist Lin Chun, the 100-meter-long ink painting scroll “The Great Voyages of Zheng He” by Wang Xinxun, as well as a great variety of historical and literary references donated by the Malaysian Chinese Cultural Society, the Malaysian Chinese Association, and the Malaysia-China Friendship Association, etc.
Ouyang Yujing, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, said that the museum will promote the Zheng He Spirit overseas and contribute to friendly exchanges between China and countries along the Silk Road. Sun Zhiguo, Vice President and Secretary-General of Chinese Zheng He Research Society, wrote in his congratulatory letter that the museum was initially proposed during the International Conference on Zheng He held in Malacca in 2018. Related institutions subsequently made long preparations for its establishment. The purpose of the museum is to promote the Zheng He spirit of “harmony, peace and friendship” and facilitate historical, cultural and archaeological research related to Zheng He.
