Exhibition on Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Opens at National Museum of China

Light of Wisdom: Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Exhibition made its public debut at the National Museum of China on January 19th, 2023. As an outstanding representative of excellent Chinese traditional culture, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a medical science that has been gradually formed and continuously enriched and developed by Chinese people of all ethnic groups during thousands of years of production, life practice and struggle with diseases. The exhibition highlights the TCM cultural system’s distinctive perspectives toward life, health, disease, prevention and treatment. Embodying the profound philosophy of the Chinese people, the TCM cultural system has made substantial contributions to the prosperity of the Chinese nation and created positive impact on civilizations of the world.

Under the main theme of TCM culture, over 500 cultural relics (sets) have been carefully selected for this exhibition, including jade, ceramics, bone, gold and silverware, ancient books, calligraphy and paintings, revolutionary relics and others. Over 200 supporting items (sets) of real medicinal ingredients are used in conjunction with digital footage and interactive activities to illustrate the cultural meanings and contemporary values of TCM, and to showcase the extensiveness and profoundness of the TCM cultural system. The exhibition recounts the nascence and developmental history of TCM, its views on prevention and cure, treatment methods, international cooperation and global contributions through five sections: “Key to Civilization”, “Way of Health Preservation”, “Secret Classics of Linglan”, “Instruments and Medicinals of TCM” and “Inheritance and Innovation”.
