
The 3rd Cross-Strait Academic Forum on “The Age of Discovery and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” was successfully held in Xiamen, China on May 27, 2023. Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), scholars and experts from China’s mainland and Taiwan region gathered to exchange ideas and insights at the event. The forum aims to provide intellectual and academic support for delivering more solid outcomes on the BRI, promoting cross-strait integrated development, and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Hosted by the China-Africa Institute and the National Institute for Global Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the forum includes four sub-topics: “Zheng He’s Maritime Expeditions and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, ” “Pacific Ocean in the 21st Century: Competition and Cooperation, ” “10th Anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative: Accomplishments and Challenges” and “China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation and Building a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in the New Era. ” Over 60 experts and scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Strait engaged in in-depth discussions on these topics and reached broad consensus. They provided insight and support to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and cross-strait integration and development.
