The exhibition Golden Light Shines Miles Away: Bronze Civilisation in Southwest China opened on May 26, 2023 at the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu, China. The exhibition brings together 294 selected pieces (sets) of artifacts from the collections of 32 museums and cultural institutions in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi, five provinces and cities in Southwest China, primarily bronzes from the pre-Qin period (c. 21st century BCE-221 BCE) to Qin and Han dynasties (221 BCE–220 CE). Excavated from nearly a hundred archaeological sites, these collections recount the history of exchanges, communication and integration between various ethics groups in southwestern China.
Featuring as many as 103 pieces of first-grade cultural relics, some of which are on public display for the first time, the exhibition includes five sections, namely “Preface,” “Sichuan-Chongqing Region,” “Yunnan Region,” “Guizhou and Guangxi Region” and “Integration into the Chinese Civilisation (Conclusion) .” These sections portray the cultural integration between Southwest China and Central China, and the pluralistic development trajectory of the Chinese civilisation. Several IAMS members, including the Sichuan Museum, have participated in the exhibition.
The exhibition is open until August 27, 2023.
