
The 2023 Silk Road Week was officially launched on July 12, 2023 at the China National Silk Museum with the theme of “The Silk Roads: Long Roads, Mutual Goals.” The event is hosted by China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA) and the Zhejiang provincial government, and organized by the Press Office, Department of Culture and Tourism, and Cultural Heritage Administration of Zhejiang province. With Hungary being the Guest Country of Honor for 2023, this year’s event is jointly coordinated by the China National Silk Museum and Budapest Museum of Applied Arts in Hungary.
Hu Wei, vice governor of Zhejiang Province, Xie Bing, NCHA deputy administrator and Szilárd Bolla, Hungary’s consul general to Shanghai attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Shahbaz Khan, director and representative of UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office for East Asia in Beijing, delivered his address online at the opening ceremony. Other guests in attendance included representatives from the China Museums Association, CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, as well as representatives from Hungary, France and Thailand as well as guests from Dunhuang, China.
During the opening ceremony, the thematic exhibition Convergence of Civilizations: Dunhuang on the Silk Road was launched and the Annual Report of Cultural Heritage on the Silk Roads 2022 was released. “Silk Road Night: Digital Inclusion” and the award ceremony for the SROM Maritime Silk Road Online Curating Competition were held on the same evening. In addition to the announcement of award winners, excellent programs featuring the Guest Country of Honor and the thematic exhibition were launched.
To celebrate this year’s Silk Road Week, the China National Silk Museum organized a series of exciting events to foster exchanges between China and other countries, including exhibitions, academic symposiums, Silk Road field trips, Silk Road culture on campus, Silk Road cultural relics poster relay, and a “A Hundred Objects from a Hundred Museums” video clip relay.
