The new Sanxingdui Museum entered its trial operation on July 27, 2023. It houses over 1500 artifacts (sets) cultural relics, including precious pieces unearthed from the Sanxingdui archaeological site in 1986, like the bronze "holy tree". Almost 600 relics are making their public debut, including 300 pieces unearthed from the six newly discovered sacrificial pits of the Sanxingdui site and over 200 objects from the No. 1 and No. 2 sacrificial pits in 1986.

Covering a floor area of 5.44 hectares and with an exhibition space of 2.2 hectares, the new museum building is the largest one among all the single buildings of archaeological site museums in southwest China. The museum’s architectural design features concept of “Piling Up Three Stars, and Being the Eye of Ancient Shu (Sichuan province) ”. The three earth-covered mounds arranged along its central axis symbolizes “Piling Up Three Stars”, while the facade made of blue glass forms the “Eye of Ancient Shu ”. The new museum building extends the classic spiral curves of the original Bronze Gallery, forming a unified and cohesive museum complex with the existing exhibition halls.

The exhibitions in the new museum includes three chapters, namely “Centenary Dreams” “Majestic Capital” and “The World of Humans and Gods”. Adopting a diverse range of display methods that blends artifacts with audiovisual presentations, these exhibitions provide a comprehensive and multifaceted view of the history of the Sanxingdui archaeological site, as well as its most recent archaeological discoveries and research achievements.
