An exhibition on ancient Greek pottery and Apulian art, The Gift of the Gods: Apulia Felix Among Greeks, Indigenous and Romans, has been open to the public from July 26 at the Oriental Metropolitan Museum in Nanjing, China. The exhibition is jointly hosted by the Nanjing Museum Administration, Art Exhibitions China, and Government of Apulia Region, Italy, and organized by the Oriental Metropolitan Museum and Shenzhen PLD Marketing & Planning Co., Ltd., and supported by eight Italian museums that have contributed objects from their collections.

Taking over a year to plan, the exhibition reflects the passion and wisdom of museum professionals from China and abroad, with designs and installations meticulously crafted in pursuit of perfection. The exhibition is divided into three parts: “Greek Mythology and Artifacts” “From the Past to the Future: Digital and Immersive Artworks by Italian Artists” and “Eternal Beauty: Apulian Art and Culture”. Over a hundred precious relics from Italy’s Apulia region are on display in Nanjing for the first time, including pottery, sculptures, coins, and others. Drawing upon the legends of six deities from ancient Greek mythology, the exhibition provides a glimpse into the art, culture, commerce, agriculture, and other aspects of life in ancient Apulia. Among these magnificent cultural relics, painted pottery has garnered the most attention. The figures and scenery they depict are closely linked to life in ancient Greek society.

During the opening ceremony, the Oriental Metropolitan Museum also presented “Tea for Harmony”, a special cultural performance of the traditional Chinese tea ceremony.
