International Symposium on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Conservation of the Silk Road Held in Xi’an, China

Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, the 2023 International Symposium on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Conservation of the Silk Road was held on August 30 in Xi’an, China. The event was organized by China’s Northwest University under the guidance of the China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation , the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, Shaanxi Foreign Affairs Office and Education Department of Shaanxi Provincial Government .

This symposium is a concrete outcome of the Xi’an Declaration of the China-Central Asia Summit and serves as an important platform for expanding cultural exchanges and cooperation along the Silk Road. It aims to promote archaeological research on the Silk Road and the conservation and inheritance of its cultural heritage, as well as to foster people-to-people exchanges and cooperation among countries along the Silk Road.

At the opening ceremony, representatives from China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Iran jointly launched the” Silk Road Archaeology Website”. The website is available in Chinese, English and Russian, and provides an international communications platform for archaeology and cultural heritage conservation in countries along the Silk Road.

Experts at the symposium delivered speeches on the research, preservation and conservation of the Silk Road and the heritage along its route.
