
Under the theme of “Redefining the Museum with Innovations: Encountering the Future with a Forward-looking Mentality”, the International Forum of Museum Directors 2023 opened in Gaochun District of Nanjing, China on November 7. Over a hundred guests from renowned Chinese and international museums, governments and universities gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on the approach to the innovative development of museums.
At the opening ceremony, the guests witnessed the release of the Research Report of the Global Museum Studies Information (Resource) Center and the initiation of the Launch Plan for the Global Museum Innovation Index. The event also featured the inauguration ceremonies of the International Innovation Centre for Museum Digital Culture and “The Light of Civilization: Supporting the Dissemination of Traditional Chinese Culture Overseas” museums cooperation project.
Keynote speeches on the development trends in the sector of culture and museum under the digital wave were delivered by several distinguished guests, including Wang Chunfa, Director of the National Museum of China, Zhu Hongwen, Deputy Director of the Palace Museum, and Duan Yong, Vice-Chair of the ICOM-IMREC Governing Board. Insights around themes such as “Empowering Museum Development with Digital and Smart Technologies,” “Digital Technology and the Development of Art Museums,” “Exploration and Outlook of the Digital Forbidden Palace” and “From Museums to GLAMs” were shared.
During the session of roundtable dialogue, participants actively engaged in in-depth discussions around trending topics at the forefront of the cultural and museum industry, such as “How Museums Promote Exchanges and Mutual Learning between Civilizations” and “Future Development Trends of Art Museums”, yielding insights and suggestions on the innovative development of the industry.
Under the approval and guidance of the Xinhua News Agency and Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, the International Forum of Museum Directors 2023 was jointly organized by the Gaochun District People’s Government (Nanjing City), Xinhua News Agency, Xinhuanet Jiangsu Co, Ltd., and International Schools for Museology at Nanjing University of the Arts.
