The exhibition Under the Same Roof: Origin and Art of Lingnan Traditional Architecture was unveiled at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre on December 12, 2023. The exhibition is curated and hosted by China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration, the Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, China and the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Government of the Macao SAR. It is organized by the Art Exhibitions China, the Antiquities and Monuments Office of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, and the Guangdong Folk Art Museum, and co-organized by the Nanyue King Museum (Research Center for the History of Nanyue Kingdom from the Western Han Dynasty) and the Guangzhou Museum.
The exhibition is an important initiative under the framework agreement signed by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Development Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR to further promote cultural heritage exchange and collaboration on archaeology and built heritage. The exhibition brings together 170 cultural relics (sets) from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to showcase the traditional architecture, craftsmanship and folk customs of China’s Lingnan region (referring to the geographical area south of the Nanling mountains), and highlight the co-existence and integration between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Through exhibits of meticulous architectural details, visitors can experience the ingenuity and beauty of Lingnan architecture, explore people-to-people exchanges in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and witness the enduring vitality of the Chinese civilization. The exhibition fully leverages the unique role of cultural heritage resources in telling the interconnected stories and shared origins of Hong Kong, Macao and the Chinese mainland, and their positive contributions toward the promotion of traditional Chinese culture, the fostering of cultural confidence, and the building of China’s cultural strength.
The exhibition is open until June 2, 2024.
