
The exhibition Silk and the Silk Roads: From Hangzhou to Samarkand opened at the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve on 24 November 2023.
The exhibition is dedicated to the cultural and historical heritage of Uzbekistan and China. In total, the exhibition features 86 exhibits from the Samarkand Archaeological Institute, the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve and the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou. Among them are unique terracotta figurines from the Afrosiab settlement, ceramic products, glass and bronze objects discovered during excavations of the Munchaktepa village in Tashkent region.
In September to November 2023, the China National Silk Museum organized the Colorful Asia: Asian Costume Exhibition in Hangzhou in conjunction with the 19th Asian Games. With the support of the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan, the exhibition in Hangzhou presented 20 of the best examples of traditional art of Uzbekistan-gold-embroidered robes, chapans, suzanis and jewelry items. The Chinese National Silk Museum presents 26 exhibits at the Samarkand exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to see silk samples, silk tapestry loom, costumes and silk products from the Qing Dynasty.
The exhibition is open until 15 September 2024.
