The 2024 Harmony and Cooperation Civilization Forum was held on May 21 at the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts in Paris. Guests from China, France, the UK, US, Japan and other countries and regions engaged in dialogue on the theme of “Diversity of Civilizations and Peaceful Development in the World”, with nearly a thousand people participating in the forum and associated events.
The forum was jointly organized by the International Confucian Association, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Peking University and the Prospective and Innovation Foundation (France) . In addition to the main forum, three concurrent sub-forums were held on the themes of “Dialogue between Civilizations: Creating Peace and Prosperity Together”, “Envoys of Civilization: Youths Taking Responsibility and Stepping Up” and “Olympic Spirit: The Light of Rationality in Human Civilization”.
Attendees at the main forum discussed the diversity of civilizations and peaceful development in the world. They believe that the concept of “harmony and cooperation”, as a crucial idea of Confucian philosophy, should be applied to enhance mutual trust, build consensus and promote cooperation, so as to meet common challenges and create a better future for all. Civilizations should draw on each other’s strengths, stay open and inclusive , promote mutually beneficial cooperation and uphold humanity’s common values to build a better world together.
The forum also included a series of associated events in Paris, including the dance performance Journey to the West as a collaboration between Chinese and French artists, and the exhibition Between the Lines: The Code of Civilization in Chinese Characters.
