2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership as well as the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death. To commemorate these events, the major exhibition A Journey of Knowledge: The Travels of Marco Polo and Its Legacy between East and West was launched on July 26 at the Beijing World Art Museum in Beijing.
The exhibition unfolds the storyline through the perspectives of medieval missionaries, merchants and soldiers. 135 exhibits have been organized into six sections to showcase the city of Venice through its stories, religion, commerce, warfare, knowledge and modern illustrations. The artifacts are from over a dozen Italian museums and cultural institutions, including the Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia Treccani, and Library of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as China’s Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Institute and the Museum of Ethnic Costumes at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. These artifacts will help visitors retrace Marco Polo’s footsteps along the Silk Road and gain a deeper understanding of the intercultural exchanges across the Eurasian continent from the 13th to the 19th century.
The exhibition is open until November 24.
