Exhibition on Silk and the Silk Road Opens at National Museum of Kazakhstan

On June 16, coinciding with the Second China–Central Asia Summit, the exhibition Silk and the Silk Road: From China to Kazakhstan opened at the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NMRK). The event marks a key highlight in the launch of Kazakhstan’s 2025 Year of China Tourism.
At the opening ceremony the China National Silk Museum (CNSM) and the NMRK signed a memorandum of cooperation to establish a CNSM Overseas Exhibition Space at the NMRK. It is part of the CNSM’s ongoing Global Showcase series, which has been presented in seven countries—including Hungary, France, Uzbekistan and the United States—since its launch in 2023.
The exhibition aims to highlight the enduring legacy of the Silk Road and its vibrant development today, celebrating the spirit of cultural exchanges and friendly cooperation between China and countries along the historic trade route.
Divided into three parts— “The Birth of Silk”, “Routes That Changed the World” and “Silk in Daily Life”—the exhibition features 145 exhibits (sets) ranging from ancient silk artifacts to modern silk artworks, including 21 cultural relics (sets). Highlights include a Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE) Lampas of Confronted Goats in a Scroll Roundel, Samite of a Bird with Ribbon in Pearl Roundel, and a Northern Dynasties (386–581 CE) Jin-silk Panel with Confronted Lions, Elephants and Travelers Leading Camels. These rare artifacts vividly recreate the vibrant cultural exchanges and integration between East and West that flourished along the Silk Road for over a millennium.
The exhibition is open until August 8.
