2025 Forum for Asia-Pacific Maritime Culture Holds at Hong Kong Maritime Museum

The 2025 Forum for Asia-Pacific Maritime Culture, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and the China Maritime Museum, took place from September 23 to 24, 2025, in Hong Kong. Held in association with the International Congress of Maritime Museums Regional Meeting, this forum seeks to convene leading scholars, maritime professionals, and cultural experts from the Asia-Pacific region and around the globe. Together, participants will explore critical issues surrounding the protection of maritime cultural heritage and the promotion of sustainable practices for the marine environment.
Forum themes include “Legacy of Zheng He in a Global Context: intersection of maritime trade, technology, and culture in the Asia-Pacific”, “Preservation and Transmission of Maritime Heritage: resilience of vulnerable cultures”, “Tales from the Deep: underwater archaeology and global cultural connections”, “Ports and Society: cultural interactions and maritime community dynamics”, “Marine Science through a Cross-Cultural Lens: future sustainability and the role of museums”, and “Mission of Maritime Industry: promoting environmental protection and sustainable development practices”. The forum delves into the preservation and transmission of maritime traditions, assess strategies for enhancing public awareness of marine conservation, and examine the evolving relationship between humanity and the maritime environment. It further aims to address the challenges and opportunities presented by global sustainable development.
Hong Kong, as a unique confluence of Eastern and Western cultures, offers an ideal setting for meaningful dialogue.
