Guidelines on Museum Accessibility in China Officially Launched

On 24 October, “The Guidelines on Museum Accessibility in China”, co-developed by UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and the Chinese Museums Association (CMA), was officially launched at the Second Chinese Museum Studies Conference. Within the Conference framework, a “Dialogue on the Guidelines on Museum Accessibility in China” was co-organized by the two organizations.
A total of 112 museum practitioners participated in the event, and approximately 10,000 people watched the event live online. In his opening remarks at the Conference, Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director and Representative of UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, highlighted that the ongoing partnership between UNESCO and CMA has been working to ensure that museums in China truly serve everyone by removing barriers and creating equal opportunities for cultural participation. Liu Shuguang, President of CMA, pointed out that the Guidelines offer, for the first time, practical and professional guidance on museum accessibility in China, setting standards to further promote cultural equality, inclusion and shared participation.
In three panel discussions of the Dialogue, nine experts and representatives from museums in China and abroad shared insights and practices on physical accessibility, information accessibility, and museum service accessibility – areas all addressed in the Guidelines.
