The opening of Shoulder to Shoulder on the Same Path, a joint art exhibition celebrating the Tanzania-Zambia Railway’s 50-year legacy, marked a renewed affirmation of a shared history built through sacrifice, determination and partnership between China, Tanzania and Zambia. Hosted at the National Museum of Tanzania and organized through collaboration among the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United Republic of Tanzania , the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the National Museum of China, the National Museum of Tanzania and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, the exhibition commemorates the enduring story of Tanzania–Zambia Railway, a historic 1,860-kilometre rail line connecting Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to New Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia.
The exhibition meticulously selects 34 pieces of fieldwork works by artists from National Museum of China, along with 11 works created by Tanzanian local artists. Presented with historical pictures and blueprints of Tanzania-Zambia Railway, the exhibition combines archival materials, oral histories, and contemporary artworks to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Tanzania-Zambia Railway's completion. The exhibition unfolds across four thematic sections, namely "Grand Vision, Glorious Past," "Carrying Forward Sincerity, Real Results, Amity and Good Faith," "Friends Across Generations," "Landscape along the Magnificent Tanzania-Zambia Railway," as well as "Wall of Voices."
The exhibition underscores the belief that Tanzania–Zambia Railway’s legacy remains a cornerstone of the long-standing China–Tanzania relationship and illuminates pathways for future cooperation. The audiences will gain a direct understanding of the course of China-African development from Freedom Railway to Development Railway.
The exhibition will last until January 26, 2026.
