The 18th-20th Centuries Jewelry Exhibition of Collections of Russian Museum of Ethnography opened on May 20 at the West Lake Museum in Hangzhou, China. As one of the key events of the China-Russia Year of Culture, it also marks a major highlight in the celebrations for the museum’s 20th anniversary.
The exhibition features over 200 items of jewelry and costumes from the 18th to 20th centuries, reflecting the artistic traditions and aesthetic tastes of nearly 40 ethnic groups from across Russia. The exhibition showcases the diversity and originality of Russian ethnic cultures through the intricate craft of jewelry-making. It features jewelry pieces with a wide range of styles, materials, production methods and decorative techniques crafted by both professional artisan jewelers and tradition bearers working in domestic settings.
At the opening ceremony, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Russian Museum of Ethnography and the West Lake Museum. The two institutions plan to engage in mutually beneficial collaboration in areas such as education and scientific research under the framework of the China-Russia Year of Culture.
The exhibition is open until September 7.
