On April 8, the International Training Program for Archaeology Professionals from Belt and Road Countries officially opened in Beijing. Sponsored by China’s Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Archaeological Research Center of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the program brings together 22 cultural heritage professionals from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
The 21-day program offers a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices that have shaped the development of Chinese archaeology. The curriculum covers China’s national conditions and legal framework for cultural heritage protection, alongside systematic training in archaeological theory, techniques and methods. It also highlights major discoveries related to the origins of the Chinese civilization, the Silk Road and underwater archaeology, while providing an in-depth view of the current state of cultural heritage conservation and utilization in China.
As part of the program, participants will visit major museums, cultural heritage sites and archaeological bases in Beijing, Luoyang and Anyang. Through site visits and roundtable discussions, the training aims to present China’s achievements in archaeology, conservation technology and international cooperation, contributing Chinese expertise to cultural heritage conservation efforts in Belt and Road countries.
