On April 20, the exhibition Qinghai Silk Road Cultural Relics and Qutan Temple Mural Art opened at the Chinese Traditional Culture Museum (CTCM) in Beijing. The exhibition is jointly sponsored by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Qinghai Province, CTCM and other institutions, and organized by the Qinghai Province Museum.
Unfolding along the theme of “interaction, exchange and integration among China’s diverse ethnic groups,” the exhibition brings together 84 cultural artifacts (sets) and 113 mural replicas. Among the highlights are a Neolithic painted pottery basin with dancing figures, a gilt-bronze Guanyin statue bearing a Yongle reign mark (1360–1424), and a gold tally used as state-backed credit in the tea-horse trade from the Ming dynasty.
Presented through seven dimensions, including digital technology, virtual reality and live demonstrations, the exhibition offers a panoramic view of Qinghai’s Silk Road heritage and the 600-year history of Han-Tibetan cultural integration embodied in Qutan Temple. During the exhibition period, themed museum merchandise and an online digital gallery will also be launched, extending the display into “the cloud”.
The exhibition is open until August 31.
