The exhibition Awaken the Future: Treasures and Suspended Sculptures of Xiaoxitian Temple was on display from December 18, 2025 to May 8, 2026 at China’s National Museum of Classic Books in Beijing. The exhibition was recently selected as a 2025 UNESCO case study on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in the Digital Environment, in the category of technology-enabled cultural heritage protection.
Jointly organized by the Art Exhibitions China, the National Library of China (National Museum of Classic Books), the Xixian County Xiaoxitian Cultural Relics Center, and Beijing Wutong Technology Co., Ltd., the exhibition marks the first in-depth revitalization of high-precision digital achievements of Xiaoxitian's suspended sculptures. It transforms these immovable artworks into digital content that can be readily experienced and toured, moving beyond conventional virtual imagery to achieve a deeper integration between digital technology and cultural relic exhibits, while creating a cultural narrative space where the physical and the virtual converge.
In addition to affirming the exhibition’s value, the UNESCO selection also encourages the National Museum of Classic Books to continue exploring the digitization and utilization of cultural heritage.
