
From November 24 to 25, 2020, the 1st International Symposium on Silk and Silk Road Research "Dialogue with Textiles on the Silk Roads" was successfully held at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. The symposium was hosted by Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, organized by its International Institute of Silk and World Silk and Silk Road International Research Center, and supported by China National Silk Museum. More than 20 experts and scholars from UNESCO and cultural entities, universities and research institutes in Europe, America, and Asia attended the meeting, while over 80 teachers and students presented. More than 4,000 people watched the live broadcast online.
At the opening ceremony, guests from Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, UNESCO, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and China National Silk Museum delivered important speeches.
The two-day seminar was comprised of four parts and featured 18presentations, covering the academic collaboration on the online interactive map of world silk, the spread of silk culture and the Silk Roads, textile archeology and cultural relic protection, and multiple attributes and time and space patterns of silk heritage.
During the conference, Chinese and foreign experts in various research fields realized a virtual gathering, which promoted academic exchanges and project cooperation among researchers in traditional silk craftsmanship and cultural cooperation, and provided new research orientations on Silk Road routes. The conference also provided new ideas for cultivating talents in the silk industry and expanded international resources and academic support to further shore up the International Institute of Silk and its academic influence.
