
On April 3, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated the Egyptian Civilization Museum in the presence of Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as well as Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The museum opened to the public on April 4.
The Egyptian Civilization Museum is located in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, with a floor area of about 139,000 square meters. The main exhibition hall covers an area of about 2,000 square meters, displaying cultural relics from various periods, including prehistoric times, pharaonic times, Coptic era, reaching up to modern-day Egypt. At present, the museum has a collection of 65,000 items, of which 1,600 are on display.
On the evening of April 3, the Egyptian government held grand parade and ceremony to transport mummies of 22 ancient Egyptian pharaohs and female pharaohs from the Egyptian Museum to the Royal Mummies' Hall of the Egyptian Civilization Museum. Among the 18 kings and four queens were mummies of Rameses II and Queen Hatshepsut. The exhibition hall will officially open to the public on April 18.
