At 9:00 on April 13, the National Museum of Cambodia launched the first-ever online exhibition to mark its 101st anniversary, displaying the achievements of the museum in the past 100 years since its establishment in 1920, and introducing the collection of ancient Cambodian sculptures and Buddha statues in the post-Angkorian Era.
Under the theme of The National Museum in 100 Years the exhibition is made on Facebook live by the Ministry of Culture, said Chhay Visoth, director of the National Museum Department. The exhibition was originally planned to be organized in 2020 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the establishment of the National Museum but was cancelled many times due to COVID-19.
"Through the exhibition, we want to show that although we are facing the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, we still can conduct an exhibition for the public to understand," Visoth said. "We also hope that people will visit the National Museum physically post-COVID-19 to understand more about statues and their history."
