The M+ Museum, Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture, opened to the public in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District on November 12, 2021. 1500 artworks from over 30 countries and regions by over 770 artists are on show for the opening exhibitions. Six thematic exhibitions, namely Hong Kong: Here and Beyond, M+ Sigg Collection: From Revolution to Globalization, Things, Spaces, Interactions, Individuals, Networks, Expressions, Antony Gormley: Asian Field, and The Dream of the Museum, give an overview of visual arts, design and architecture, moving image and other different fields of art.
According to the introduction, the M+, as the largest museum in Hong Kong, includes 17,000 square meters of exhibition space across thirty-three galleries. The museum aims at elevating the artistic sense of the residents in Hong Kong, hoping to present the abundant culture and art resources in Asia to the world, building a cross-section, cross-cultural museum, and enhancing communication of culture and arts between the East and the West through dialogues and cooperation with world top museums.
