Waving is one of the most ancient and intimate art forms of human beings, delivering tales and mysteries at the same time. On December 17, 2021, a new exhibition named “Weaving Stories” was held at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. The exhibition included more than 45 textile products from dozens of communities in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, most works from 19th and 20th Centuries Southeast Asia.
This exhibition focuses on the textile traditions in the island countries of Southeast Asia, highlights the diversity in style, technique, and ornamentation of the textile, and reveals the textile backstory and tracing the development of clothing across this region of legend. The complexity, creativity, and scenic beauty of the textile are rare both now and then. As textile is related to physically feelings, other than the items and related files on display, visitors can observe the textile via a macro lens, touch samples of the fabrics, and view demonstration videos on traditional handicrafts.
The exhibition will be on display until May 2, 2022.
