
An exhibition marking 30 years of China–Cambodia exchanges and cooperation on cultural heritage opened in Siem Reap, Cambodia on November 10th, 2022. Hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce, National Cultural Heritage Administration and Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the exhibition 30 years of China–Cambodia Exchanges and Cooperation on Cultural Heritage is organised by the China Academy of Cultural Heritage and Art Exhibitions China and supported by APSARA National Authority of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, High Representative of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Chea Sophara attended the exhibition and the handover ceremony for the China-assisted Ta Keo Temple Restoration Project.
The exhibition recollects numerous accomplishments from 30 years of ongoing China-Cambodia cooperation in the field of cultural heritage, and sets a course for the future deepening cultural heritage exchange and cooperation between the two countries from this new starting point, so as to promote mutual understanding between the Chinese and Cambodian people, improve inter-civilisation exchanges and mutual learning, and build a China-Cambodia community with a shared future. The exhibition features the science of conservation, restoration, investigation and research put into practice by the Chinese conservation professionals as part of UNESCO’s International Programme for Angkor across five locations in Cambodia. Highlights include restoration principles, processes, techniques and protection measures from the Ta Keo Restoration Project, demonstrating the advanced cultural relics conservation concepts, professionalism, pragmatic approach and sense of duty and responsibility of the Chinese conservation professionals. Furthermore, the exhibition showcases the international exchanges and cooperation between China and Cambodia in the areas of exhibitions and training, as well as platforms such as the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations and the Asian Dialogue for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
