The Longquan Celadon Exhibition opened at the China Cultural Center in Brussels on April 3, 2023. The exhibition is organised by the Chinese Embassy in Belgium, Network of International Cultural Link entities, the Longquan Municipal Government of Zhejiang Province, and the China Cultural Center in Brussels. A number of distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony.
The 55 celadon works on display at the exhibition are designed and crafted by contemporary artists and artisans from Longquan city in China. The works include imitations of classical objects as well as celadon porcelain for artistic and modern everyday use. The exhibition not only showcases the inheritance and development of celadon craftsmanship by Chinese artisans, but also conveys the aesthetic taste of the Chinese people and their aspirations for a better life.
Mr. Cao Zhongming, Chinese Ambassador to Belgium, gave remarks at the opening ceremony that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. As one of the most distinctive Chinese commodities, porcelain has historically been exported overseas via both the Land and Maritime Silk Roads, serving as a medium for dialogue and interaction between Eastern and Western cultures. This exhibition aims to help the Belgian public understand and appreciate the cultural heritage and exquisite craftsmanship of Chinese Longquan celadon, and to further strengthen people-to-people bond between the two countries.
