Digital Art Exhibition of China’s Ancient Shu Civilization Debuts in Paris

The Animist Civilisation of Ancient Shu: Digital Art Exhibition of Sanxingdui and Jinsha Cultures was unveiled at the China Cultural Center in Paris , France on April 13, 2023. The exhibition is organized by China’s Sichuan Provincial Office of Cyberspace Affairs Commission, Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism , Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, and the China Cultural Center in Paris .

Liu Hongge, Director of the China Cultural Center in Paris remarked in his address at the opening ceremony that the Ancient Shu civilization is an important headspring and treasure for Chinese and world civilizations. The digital exhibition is a pertinent symbol of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and France, and a digital continuation of the Sanxingdui exhibition held in Paris during the China-France Cultural Year in 2003. The exhibition will showcase the splendour of the ancient Shu civilization and the allures of Chinese culture to French visitors, providing a new impetus for strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the two nations.

The exhibition’s exquisite 3D printed replicas of artefacts fascinate visitors, while digital media such as exhibition panels and VR videos illustrate the two significant archaeological achievements of Sanxingdui and Jinsha, which showcase the splendour of the ancient Shu civilization.

That eventing, the China Cultural Center in Paris hosted a Shaxingdui themed light show. Filmed using ultra-high-definition video technology, the light show uses light and shadow to blend together ancient Shu culture and architecture from the China Cultural Center in Paris. The event was complemented by original music scores and artworks to present the Sanxingdui and Jinsha cultures to Parisian visitors in a clear, vivid and engaging manner that transcends time and borders.
