The Light of Ancient Roman Civilisation: Masterpieces from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples was opened at the China Millennium Monument Art Museum in Beijing on June 12, 2023. The exhibition is jointly organised by the Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group, the China Millennium Monument Art Museum and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples in Italy.
Featuring 69 pieces (sets) of exquisite artifacts from ancient Rome, including sculptures, bronzes, murals, glassware, mosaics and other art forms, the exhibition explores the theme of “beauty” in three parts: “Legacy of Beauty,” “Life and Beauty” and “Interpretations of Beauty.” Embodying classical beauty from different aspects, these artifacts will help visitors relive the splendour of ancient Roman civilisation.
Both China and Italy are ancient civilisations with rich cultural histories. As cultural heritage powerhouses on the Silk Road, these two countries have substantially contributed to exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations along the Silk Road. While the exhibition is on display, the China Millennium Monument Art Museum will organize a series of academic lectures, art education programs and other events related to the exhibition.
The exhibition is open until October 8, 2023.
