The exhibition Confluence and Coexistence: Historical Treasures from Xinjiang was inaugurated in the National Museum of China on June 16, 2023, co-hosted by the National Museum of China, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the Institute of Cultural Heritage and Museology of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
This exhibition includes four sections, with 209 pieces (sets) of the finest cultural relics from Xinjiang, including major categories such as painted pottery, bronze, jade, goldware, woodware, embroidered costumes, bamboo and wooden slips, documents, woolen felts and rugs, paintings and sculptures, seals and coins, inscriptions and stone carvings.
Since the establishment of the Western Regions Frontier Command during the Western Han dynasty (206 BC-25 CE), Xinjiang has been formally included in the Chinese territory, ushering in a historical era when the central government of different dynasties established administrative organs, appointed officials, and exercised governance over the Western Regions. Through the thousand-year history of exchanges and integration, all ethnic groups in Xinjiang remain closely united like the seeds of a pomegranate that stick together with other ethnic groups across China, and have contributed to forging a diverse, integrated and splendid Chinese civilization.
