2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic ties, as well as the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. The international symposium on “Exhibiting Asian Arts: New Franco-Chinese Perspectives” and associated events were held on June 7 to 8, 2024 at the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts (Guimet Museum) in Paris. Nearly 20 international guests from museums in China, France and the US, Singapore and other countries attended the event alongside nearly 100 professionals from the museum industry. They engaged in in-depth discussions on themes such as how to enhance the appeal of permanent exhibitions, develop new modes for displaying and visiting, attract young visitors, and the application of digital technology in museums. Together, they explored future trends in museum development, particularly the positive leading role of Asian art in the face of global museum challenges. In her speech, Yannick Lintz, director of the Guimet Museum, indicated that this year’s symposium is especially meaningful as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations and the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. The symposium focused on dialogue between China and France, as well as between civilizations. Attendees jointly explored the role of museums in exchanges between civilizations and mutual appreciation between cultures, and provided inspiration and new ideas on the future development of the museum industry. Chinese and French museums each have their own development characteristics, where both sides can provide valuable insights and learn from each other on the issue of how to deepen historical and cultural connections with younger generations.
