
The exhibition on The Great Tea Route was unveiled at the National Museum of Mongolia on September 4, 2024. Under the guidance of China’s Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the China Cultural Center in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the exhibition is jointly organized by the Hubei Provincial Museum, the Office of the Joint Application of the Great Tea Route (China section) for UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status, and the National Museum of Mongolia. The event also celebrates the 75th anniversary of China-Mongolia diplomatic relations, and aims to promote the joint application of the Great Tea Route for World Cultural Heritage.
At the opening ceremony, Davaatseren, head of the Cultural Heritage Policy and Implementation Department at Mongolia’s Ministry of Culture , Tourism, Sports and Youth, Li Zhi, counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia and director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Ulaanbaatar , and other guests from China and Mongolia delivered speeches and collectively reflected on the historical contributions of the Great Tea Route. They also affirmed the importance of the preparation activities for the joint application for World Heritage, as well as cultural heritage protection work for the Great Tea Route.
The exhibition is organized into three sections: “Hometown of Tea”, “Tea and the World” and “Inheritance and Protection”. The historical appearance of the Great Tea Route and the cultural exchanges it had inspired have been vividly recreated through images, artifacts and multimedia displays. The brick dark tea from China’s Hubei province is a highlight of the exhibition, which showcases the tea’s unique craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage, attracting many visitors to linger before these exhibits.
The exhibition is open until October 3, providing the public with a valuable opportunity to better understand the Great Tea Route and the cultures along it.
