Exhibition on Maritime and Overland Silk Roads Launches in Ningbo, China

On November 26, The Starting Point of the East: A Cross-Time and Space Dialogue Exhibition between Ningbo and Xi’an on the Maritime and Overland Silk Roads opened at the Ningbo Museum in Ningbo, China.
This is China’s first exhibition to showcase cultural artifacts from three world lineal cultural heritage routes at the same time: the Overland Silk Road, Maritime Silk Road, and the Grand Canal. It is also the largest temporary exhibition held in Ningbo to date, boasting the largest number of loaned objects, highest quantity and grade of cultural artifacts. Featuring 481 precious objects, the exhibition vividly illustrates the magnificent tales of Eastern cultures transcending mountains and oceans to reach the rest of the world.
Ningbo is one of the key starting points of the Maritime Silk Road, while Xi’an is the main starting point of the Overland Silk Road. Leveraging Ningbo and Xi’an as its dual axes, the exhibition creates a portal through time and space in five parts: “Origin of the Silk Roads”, “Expansion of the Silk Roads”, “A Symphony of Land and Sea”, “Ports Connecting the World” and “The Belt and Road”. It employs a range of technologies, including reconstructions of historical scenes, interactive screens and multimedia displays, to vividly depict the development of the Silk Roads and historical scenes of everyday life, immersing visitors in the allure of the Silk Roads.
In addition to the exhibition, six complementary activities will enable visitors to explore the cultural context of the Silk Roads from different perspectives and aspects, including an exhibition preview, academic forum, lecture series, creative products, markets for intangible cultural heritage, and immersive performances.
The exhibition is open until March 23, 2025.
