Exhibition of Ancient Greek and Roman Sculptures Unveils at Shanxi Museum, China

The exhibition Classical and Glory: Ancient Greek and Roman Sculpture Arts was officially unveiled on January 1 at the Shanxi Museum’s Convention and Exhibition Center. The event is jointly organized by the Shanxi Museum (China) and the National Museums Liverpool (UK).
The exhibition is divided into five sections: "Olympian Gods", "Divine Blessings", "The Artistic Glory of Augustus", "Roman Gardens" and "Immortality". It features 134 precious sculptures (sets), showcasing the sculpture art of ancient Greece and Rome—often regarded as the cradle of Western civilization. Visitors are invited to explore the distant shores of the Mediterranean, where ancient Greeks and Romans achieved the ultimate aesthetic expression of the human form, and pursued ideals, harmony and beauty with unwavering dedication. These sculptures, whether depicting gods, heroes or ordinary individuals, reflect the ancient Greeks' passion for life and profound understanding of human nature.
This exhibition represents a significant achievement in cultural collaboration between China and the UK, and serves as an excellent example of cultural exchanges and mutual learning under the Belt and Road Initiative. The exhibition is open until May 5, 2025.
