Russian State Hermitage Museum Commemorates 550th Anniversary of Michelangelo’s Birth

The exhibition The Divine Michelangelo and His Contemporaries opened at the State Hermitage Museum in Russia to commemorate the 550th anniversary of Michelangelo's birth on April 25,2025.
The exhibition introduces visitors to the artistic circle and followers of one of the most iconic figures in the history of fine arts. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Michelangelo's marble sculpture titled The Crouching Boy— an exceptionally rare piece found outside Italy and the only one in Russia. Surrounding it are 13 other sculptures and 11 paintings by the artist’s friends, rivals, pupils and imitators. These works vividly illustrate the lasting impact of Michelangelo’s ideas on artists from the 16th century art and beyond.
The exhibition is organized by the State Hermitage Museum, and supported by the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the State Museum of the History of Religion, and the Museum of Christian Culture.
The exhibition is open until August 24.
