I. Launch of Global Museum Directors Forum

The IAMS President member National Museum of China plans to hold the Global Museum Directors Forum with the theme of “the Functions and Missions of National Museums Along the Silk Road” from April 10 to 13, 2019. Aimed at helping build a community with a shared future for humanity, the 4-day Forum intends to create a favorable international environment and conditions for museums with international or regional influences to carry out exchanges in cultural relics, information and professionals in a planned way. During the event, the National Museums Consensus is expected to be signed as a deliverable. About 60 guests from about 30 countries and regions would be invited to Beijing, including directors from over 30 world-famous museums, national museums along the “Belt and Road” and close partners of the National Museum of China.

II. “Sharing a Common Future: Exhibition of Treasures from National Museums along the Silk Road” is planned to open on April 11

The IAMS President member National Museum of China plans to hold “Sharing a Common Future: Exhibition of Treasures from National Museums along the Silk Road” on April 11. The exhibition echoes the Global Museum Directors Forum, enhances IAMS work and materializes the Framework Agreement on IAMS Exhibition Cooperation signed at the First Conference of IAMS.

This event is the first large-scale international "Silk Road" exhibition ever held in China that is participated by more than 3 countries. Themed on “Exchanges and Mutual Learning Among Civilizations”, the exhibition is planned to be held at the National Museum of China in cooperation with national museums of countries and regions along (but not limited to) the “Belt and Road”. Featuring historical objects of land and maritime Silk Road, the exhibition tries to showcase exchanges among various countries and regions in commerce, religion, handicraft, science and technology, production mode and life styles, and culture and art. Hopefully, the event will highlight the profound significance of dialogues, exchanges, mutual learning and integration among civilizations.
